Antique Staffordshire Dogs

             ANTIQUE STAFFORDSHIRE DOGS

Scores of potteries sprang up in England’s Staffordshire district in the early eighteenth century.  Figurines and groups were made in great numbers; dogs were favorite subjects.  Often they were made in pairs, each a mirror image of the other.  They varied in heights from 3” or 4” to the largest, measuring 16” to 18” and were produced from 1840 until about 1900.  As a rule these were never marked.
